Marius Ray Lacey was born on December 12, 1959 in San Diego, CA to the union of Adolphus and Willie Mae Lacey. He received his formal education in Los Angeles, at Louis Pasteur Junior High School, and in San Diego at Memorial Junior High. He attended San Diego High School. Ray was baptized at the early age of thirteen years old by Rev. Cashmere in Los Angeles, CA.
Ray was an avid sports lover. He especially loved the game of baseball. He played and excelled in baseball and basketball in high school.
In his early 20’s, Ray moved and lived in Dallas, TX.
In his youth, Ray was known as "PPR", Pretty Pretty Ray, because he considered himself a ladies' man. Ray was strong-willed, stubborn, and determined to live life on his own terms. Ray was touched at an early age by what science labelled schizophrenia. It took him to a place removed from his family and friends; a place only he and God knows why. Ray was affectionately remembered and highly regarded by his family and friends before he was diagnosed. His big personality, charming, and loving spirit was overshadowed, the majority of his life, because of his illness.
On September 25, 2017, Ray passed away in his childhood home from a battle with cancer, in the presence of his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Adolphus Lacey (1996), his brothers, Rodney Lacey (2002) and Leslie "Mike" Collins (2002), his maternal grandparents, Lovie and Pernella Smith, fraternal grandparents, Sam and Mary Lacey, uncle, Isaiah Smith (1980), and aunt, Thelma Hughes (2008). His life will forever be cherished by his mother, Willie Mae Lacey, his sisters, Sharon Lacey (Jonathan Ward), Regina Lacey, Tammy Lacey, and his brother, Kelvin Lacey (Wimala). In addition, he has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will forever hold him in their hearts.
