Samuel Robinson Jr was born on October 22, 1956 to Samuel Robinson Sr. and Nannie Sue Robinson in San Diego CA. He was known to his friends as Sammy or Sam.
Sam grew up in San Diego CA graduating from San Diego High School and attending San Diego Mesa College
He excelled in basketball and the triple jump in high school and continued to play basketball in college. On the weekends he would play basketball with his brother and friends at the infamous MUNI Gym in Balboa Park and during the summer he would play at South Mission Beach and play in tournaments in the San Diego, Orange and LA County areas.
In 1980 Sam relocated to South Bend IN with his older brother, Vernon Price. During his early years there he played basketball on several men’s travel teams. He worked for Leer Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers and Monarch Linen and Uniform Rentals. In 2005 he came back home to San Diego, where he was employed by The San Diego Union Tribune Newspaper as a forklift driver until he was no longer able to work due to a decline in his health in 2007.
Sam was a friendly person, with a gentle spirit. He never met a stranger and everyone that met him enjoyed his company. He always had a story to tell or a joke to make you laugh. He enjoyed watching sports, traveling, going to the local casinos, and hanging out with friends.
Sam departed this life on November 1, 2017 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents: Sam Sr and Nannie, one brother Vernon Price, niece Farran Phillps and great-nephew Kenneth Riles Jr.
