Ray Anthony Amerson Sr.
February 12th, 1958 – July 7th, 2012
Ray Anthony Amerson Sr was born February 12, 1958 in San Diego, California. He was the second of three boys born to the late Thelton and Geneva Amerson.
Ray lived his life in San Diego, California where he attended Chollas and Fulton Elementary Schools and received his middle school education at O’Farrell Junior High School. Ray completed his education at Morse High School and received his diploma in 1976. While attending Morse High School he was active in the varsity wrestling program. He received CIF awards as well as honors in his weight class.
Ray met and married Carmen Cloud and through this union they were blessed with a son Ray Anthony Amerson Jr. He later in life met Yvonne Gramata and they were united as one in Holy Matrimony on February 6, 1988. The union of Ray and Yvonne blessed him with three daughters Chantel, Chiya and Chantiana.
Ray loved to work and started his employment career with Jack in the Box and Leeds/Wild Pair Shoes. He then changed his career to Frito Lay where he was a very successful local distributor. He moved on from Frito Lay and worked at D&D Estate Sales until his illness no longer permitted him to work.
Ray loved his community so much that he gave back by volunteering countless hours as a coach. He coached Pop Warner football for Skyline Pop Warner for 12 years and Little League Baseball at Oak Park Little League for 4 years. The kids who knew and loved Ray will always share the memory of knowing when he pulled up in his Frito Lay truck, “Frito Lay Ray” (as he was known to many of the youth) was going to be handing out chips.
Ray was a very loving selfless man who enjoyed walking and talking, no one was immune to a good long conversation with Ray. The things Ray loved the most were the San Diego Chargers, spending time and dancing with his family. Although he was small in stature he was considered a great athlete with a competitive spirit and most of all he never gave up.
While showing his strength and courage, fighting for the battle of his life Ray was called home for eternal rest on Saturday July 7, 2012 at 4:15pm.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Yvonne Amerson, his son Ray Anthony Amerson Jr, three daughters Chantel Cannon, Chiya Bailey and Chantiana Amerson, son in-law Mark Cannon; two brothers Archie Amerson I and Thelton David Amerson, two sister in-laws Arlena Amerson and Felicia Amerson; four granddaughters Rayven, Chiyan, Chamaiya and Logan; one grandson Chalen, all of San Diego, California; godsister Karen Cole-Henderson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
