Betty Jean Flagg-Morris was born in Dallas, Texas on November 11, 1935 to Oscar and Gladys Jones-Flagg.
From this union God blessed them with four children, Betty Jean Flagg, Gloria Dean Flagg, Oscar Boyd Flagg, and Oliver Wayne Flagg.
In 1940 Oscar and Gladys Flagg moved the family to San Diego where the family continued to be raised with strong Christian values rooted in the Grand Ole Church of God in Christ. A devotion to Christ, and hard work, was always the cornerstone of the FLAGG’s family life.
At a very early age the Lord had anointed Betty with the gift to play the piano by ear, and to have the voice that brought joy and inspiration to all. Throughout her life, she would always provide both her piano talents, and her voice to the church. Betty’s gifts of playing the piano, and singing, allowed her to share her special talents outside the church, and throughout San Diego, and Los Angeles. She was very popular and would entertain her loyal followers with selections from some of her favorite artists like: Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Earl Garner, Nancy Wilson, George Gershwin, and Nat King Cole. She continued to play for the church into her eighties, until her fingers could no longer tickle the keys.
Having been raised in the Grand Ole Church of God in Christ, Betty’s faith was always extremely strong, although those who knew Betty, knew that she would rebuke you in the most stern way one minute, and give you all her love the next.
As a child growing up Betty would rule the roost over her siblings. It was rules according to Betty, and although she would discipline her sister, and brothers, she was always ready to step up to defend them.
Betty met and married Lee Earl Morris, and to this union God blessed them with three beautiful children, Deanna LaVerne Morris, Lee Earl Morris Jr., and Lienna Marie Morris.
On March 9, 2018, Betty was called from her labor to rest. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Gladys Flagg; grandmother Josie Bell-Jones; uncle Herman Jones;
and husband Lee Earl Morris.
To cherish her memory are her loving and dedicated daughter, Deanna LaVerne Morris-Darbeau, husband (Stephen); son Lee Earl Morris, Jr. wife (Carla) of California; and daughter Lienna Marie Morris; siblings sister Gloria D.
