Shkeenna B.J. Reed was born on September 5, 1941 to Inez E. Davis of Kansas City, Missouri.
Billie attended Sumpner High School in Kansas City, Kanas, where she graduated in 1959. She obtained a bachelors degree in child development and taught in the San Diego Unified School District for twenty years. Billie also enjoyed being a volunteer for the foster grandparent program at McPhatter II High School for at risk teens. She relocated to Urban Corps on Rosecrans only to retire in 2014.
Billie was an outstanding member of Blessed Assurance later New Assurance Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, the mothers board, hospitality department, missions department, and she was a pillar in the community.
Billie Jean was a strong, tenacious, loving woman who was deeply loved by all who new her.
Billie Jean was called home on March 6, 2018 at 9:15pm. She was preceded in death by mother Inez Davis; her eldest son Jerald Melton; and brothers Preston and C.L. Nelson.
Billie Jean is survived by her husband Lafayette J. Reed; sons Wendell Melton, Joseph Melton, Lafayette Reed, Jr.; daughters Sebrina Melton, Cassandra Melton and Yolanda Valdez; brothers Darryl Johnson and Larry Nelson; sisters September Nelson and Tangerine Nelson of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Theron & Jaylin Melton, Centoria Melton, Nicole Malloyd; sons and daughters-in-law Lisa and Stephanie Melton, Boyd Pearson, and Malik Valdez.
