Dorothy Mae Payne was the first of seven children born to Gertude Mary Hamilton and Henry Tillman Payne on April 11, 1932 in Seminole, OK. Very early in life Dorothy was taught the goodness of God by her mother. She spent her formative years in Fresno, CA and San Diego where she received her formal education at San Diego High School Class of 1950.
Dorothy went on to marry her best friend and the love of her life Lenon Honor, Sr. and to this union four children were born Lucretia Marion Honor, Lenon Honor, Jr., Deborah Denise Honor and Lovell Thomas Honor.
Dorothy worked for the MCRD Officers Club for forty-one enjoyable years and retired in June of 1994.
On September 20, 2018 the Lord called Sister Dorothy to her eternal place of rest.
Preceding her in death were her father Henry T. Payne; mother Gertude M. Payne; daughter Lucretia M. Honor; brothers Alfred Payne; Henry Payne and Darnell Payne; sister Doris Payne-Morant. Dorothy had additional brothers and sisters that preceded her in death from her father's first marriage; brothers James Hollins and Leroy Hollins; sisters Rebecca Troupe and Hallie Rice.
Those left to celebrate Dorothy's memories are two sons Lenon Honor, Jr. and Lovell T. Honor, both of San Diego; and daughter Deborah D. Honor of San Diego; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Estella Payne of Chino Hills, CA; nephew Emmitt Willis of Los Angeles, CA and uncle and aunt Hubert and Evelyn Hamilton of Lemon Grove, CA and sister-in-law Ivey Mae Williams of San Diego.
Eight grandchildren: Tiffany Alforque, Teea, Lenon III, Royal, Tierra, and Tina Marie Honor, all of San Diego and Sequoia Jones of Texas, Rico A. Christian of San Diego. Fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory and celebrate her Homegoing.
