Dorothy Mae Pearson was born June 29, 1938 to Cassandra Rosetta Garnett-Arbuthnot and Nolan Oliver Arbuthnot in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the third of three children born to this union.
Dorothy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Webster and Evans Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Elder Polk. She received her education at Dunbar Elementary and graduated from Vashon High School. Dorothy had a love for music. She took professional voice lessons, played piano, and performed with the O’Neal Twins in St. Louis before they became famous. She was a soloist and her favorite song was “Precious Lord”. Dorothy was employed by the San Diego School District, and also worked as a beautician and caregiver for many years. She was a blessing to her husband and her family, and often opened her door to others. Her ministry was helping people in need.
Dorothy relocated to San Diego by train with her father and her two children to join her brother Oliver and mother Rose. She became a member of Gospel Center Church of God in Christ in 1958. She assisted with the Sunshine Band youth choir and was also honored to be on the Mother’s Board. She was a Hospitality Board member and was a part of many auxiliaries and fundraisers associated with the ministry. She had the honor of being the longest living church member of sixty-two years.
In 1960, Dorothy was introduced to her husband Elector Lee Pearson, Jr. by Dell Frost. Dorothy was a strong woman who was a breast cancer survivor and an example to others fighting adversity.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, Dorothy was called home surrounded by her children and loved ones.
