Edith Diane (nee Harvey) Bixel, known to friends as “Edy” passed away on June 25, 2018 at the age of eighty-four. The cause was complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Edy was born in San Diego on October 5, 1933, the first child of William Joseph Harvey and Mary (nee Brook) Harvey. Edy attended San Diego High and San Diego State University before joining a touring company of Holiday on Ice with her sister Martha, traveling around the United States and to Mexico. Edy was a loving mother to her three children by former husband, Paul Lewis Bixel. She enjoyed the fine arts, nature, KPBS public television and her beloved cats. Edy worked as a floral designer at several San Diego florist shops before serving 20 years as a San Diego County Court clerk until she retired. Edy was a Chargers and Aztecs football fan, and also volunteered for thirteen years as the Gamma Phi Beta Panhellenic representative and served as President of the Panhellenic from the San Diego chapter.
Edy is survived by her sister, Martha (Harvey) Gulledge of San Diego; her children, Leslie Ann Bixel of Los Gatos, California, Douglas Harvey Bixel of Jamul, California, and Nancy Elizabeth (Bixel) Anderson of Bellevue, Washington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held by her family.
