Walter Jean Johnson was born on November 3, 1939 to Velma Cordeliah McGlothin and Walter Lee Johnson in Meridian, MS. She was the first born of four children blessed to this union (Ervin, Willie, Margaret). Walter Jean received her formal education in the Meridian public school system.
At a very young age, she became a member of Congregation Church of God in Meridian, where she learned to play the guitar for church services. She obtained her driver’s license while in high school and was known to drive cars fast, which she dearly loved. In 1958, she was united in holy matrimony with Robert Anderson. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter. In December 1967, the family relocated to San Diego, CA. While in San Diego, she worked as a cook at North Island Naval Base and volunteered for the San Diego Unified School District. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Over time, she became the neighborhood mother and was affectionately known as Mama Jean. Friends and family acknowledged her home as the “House of Love”.
On April 13, 1986, Walter Jean became a member of New Creation Church under the Pastorate of Rev. Amos Johnson, Jr. As a faithful member, she worshipped and served on many of the church auxiliaries.
With a kind and loving heart, she provided food and clothing for the homeless for many years. In her spare time, she loved to play Tonk, fish, cook, and play lotto. She was known for wearing blond wigs, white suits, and long finger nails.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers, Willie Johnson, Sr., of Meridian, MS, David Johnson of CT; three sons, Cedric Sr. (Barbara) of Glendale, AZ, Anthony Sr., Walter, Sr. (Adriana); and one daughter, Jacqueline (James) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Anthony, Jr., Lavonte, Anabelle, Cedric, Jr., Robert, Jovon, Walter, Jr., Christopher, Demetria, Rodney, Jr., Jahslin, Jaheim, Michelle, Marceles, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and family.
